Discussion:
MPlayer was compiled without libmp3lame support

Hi there,

I'm just sitting in front of a Mageia5 test installation, checking which
packages are available here.

Well, all tools like mcc are still there, and even the annoying msec is /
was still running and smashing my setting all the time (finally I deleted
it, now it's OK...), so it feels somehow familiar, but there are a few
things puzzling me:

I tried to re-use a script from Mandriva to convert movie files from VOB
file format to mpeg4-avi, and instead, there appears the following alert:

[***@mageia2 ~]# mencoder /tmp/null.VOB -oac mp3lame -lameopts
cbr:mode=2:br=96 -af resample=44100 -af volnorm -srate 44100 -ofps 15 -ovc
lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:mbd=2:cbp:trell:vbitrate=300:aspect=16/9 -vf
scale=400:240 -ffourcc XVID -o /tmp/null.AVI
MEncoder SVN-12.r37337.3.mga5-4.9.2 (C) 2000-2014 MPlayer Team
MPlayer was compiled without libmp3lame support.
-lameopts is not an MEncoder option

Exiting... (error parsing command line)

Any clue, why they excluded it from build?

Is there an other source for getting this package (PLF or so?) instead of
building it by myself?

...I'd appreciate having a distro where the system can be "clicked
together" by just selecting what you want.

Thanks!

Best regards,

Markus

lame is in the twolame package, but it may not work as a plugin. You can
install all the codecs by installing the metapackage task-codec-audio.

Mageia's equivalent to PLF is the Tainted repository. It is disabled by
default. Enable it by checking its box. There may be a more comprehensive
version of mplayer there. If you then disable the Tainted repo, you can
still have updates. If you leave it enabled, its packages will update every
installed free version possible.

I find that RPMs for PCLinux will usually install in Mageia. You can
download them from rpm.pbone.net

HTH,

Doug.

I am running the tainted version -

MPlayer SVN-12.r37337.3.mga5.tainted-4.9.2 (C) 2000-2014 MPlayer Team

You might want to turn on the tainted repo and install from there.

Thanks, Vince! Yes, it's now activated and working.

B.t.w., I'm not sure if it is a good idea to add a "foreign repository".
Let's say, add a repo from open Mandriva or PCLinux to Mageia or vice
versa.

Maybe, as long as installing follows some kind of "priority", so that
first the native repositories are checked, and only if there's no such
package found, then the foreign repos are queried and installed from them.
Or, will this smash the rpm packages database?

Thanks, best regards,

Markus

At least with Mageia you are not adding a foreign repo but one that has
software that is considered by some to have restrictions in regard to
software sources in part not being available such as Nvidea drivers, video
player code etc.

The tainted options come up in the package selector in the sense that you
will see more than one item for a given package so you have to look to the
right hand side to see where it is coming from - just the same as you need
to do to select the X64 version over the i86 one, so the tainted versions
are also so shown.

Easy - well ish there are still a fair number of ommisions offered as I
have been finding out when looking for Python5 and QT5 development tools
where there are lots of missing elements.

PS. If you are speaking about Mageia you should only be posting in the
usergroup for it and not this redundant / deal distro.
